As people interact with each other in a workplace and set out to achieve overlapping goals, emotions run high, and conflict is likely to arise. Workplace conflict is widespread in human care service provision as parents and caregivers, professionals from different disciplines, other stakeholders, direct staff, and supervisors work with each other. Effective leadership involves surfacing workplace conflict and successfully navigating challenging conversations to achieve resolution for all parties involved in the conflict. Therefore, effective conflict management is an essential skill for every leader. In this workshop, we will discuss how to approach conflict, take others’ perspectives, find shared values, problem-solve, identify workable resolutions, and strengthen relationships.
